Renew or Replace a Permanent Resident card
Permanent Residents must have a valid permanent resident card or permanent resident travel document to return to Canada. Your PR card must be valid when you show it to a border officer. If your permanent resident is expired or will expire in less than 9 months, you can apply for a new card. Most PR cards have valid for 5 years.
Renew or Replace a Study/Work Permit
Study Permit
The expiry date on your study permit lets you know when you must stop studying and leave Canada. If you want to extend your study permit, you must apply to extend your study permit at least 30 days before it expires. Your study permit will expire on the date marked on the permit OR 90 days after the day you complete your studies, whichever comes first.
Work Permit
If you have a work permit that is about to expire or need to make changes to it, you need to apply to extend it or change conditions on it.
You can apply for an extension if:
- Want to extend your work permit
- Need to make changes to the conditions on your work permit
- Your job is extended
- There are changes to your current job (change in pay, new responsibilities)
- You are offered a different job
- You want to work for a new employer

Verification of Status Document
A verification of Status document will contain information that appeared on your original Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence, Work Permit, Study Permit, or other immigration documents. This document can be used to provide proof of historical immigration.
Replacement of a valid Temporary Resident document
You can request a replacement of current and valid temporary resident document if it is lost or stolen.
